Cinema Production Practicum:
Pre-Visualization, Story Development, Financing Story, Development, Financing
by Associate Professor Cathy Lee Crane

This Cinema Production Practicum course is a hands-on participatory class for students interested in working alongside Professor Cathy Crane in the pre-visualization and pre-production of her World War I feature‐length film “Stories of Lenore” whose principal photography is scheduled for June 2015.

Students enrolled in this class will be invited to participate in that production (in
Ithaca) though it is not mandatory for participation in the Practicum.

During Spring 2014, students will learn all aspects of preparing for a major film production through active engagement under the guidance of an award-winning
filmmaker and invited professional guests.

You will assist the director in location scouting, visual design tests (miniatures,
16mm optical composites and rear-screen projection, and digital mapping/green
screen), script revision, archival research, budgeting, financing (including the development of a website/production blog for crowd sourcing), and experiments in silent film acting techniques with local actors.

This class is open to students from across campus with Junior and Senior standing, with preference given to Seniors in the cinema production concentration or BFA degree program, and interest or experience in film production, historical research, screenplay adaptations, digital special effects, sculpture (building miniatures), set design, social media, website design, business, and/or photography.

The class meets the capstone requirement for BFA and BS Cinema Production degree programs in the Park School.

Faculty Approval Required.
