Course Description: Difference isn’t the problem,discourse is! As such, this course explores and interrogates the ways that communication (e.g.,language, media, discourse) establishes and enacts identity and power dynamics. In thinking about communication as global citizens, our online discussions of how, for example, movies like Crash and Snowpiercer will help us to understand how social identities are constructed, institutionalized, changed, contested and/or appropriated by various social groups. 3 credits.
