SLC and OL positions are paid, develop leadership skills, and will work for you!

Learn from current OLs and SLCs about how these paid, leadership development positions meet your professional, academic, and career goals.

Great summer and academic year campus jobs can be tough to find. How do you find something fun and interesting that also works with your schedule? Most importantly, how will it help you develop skills in your field of choice?

Good News! There are two positions on campus that meet all of these requirements, and both of are currently accepting applications! The Office of Student Engagement and Multicultural Affairs is seeking applicants for Student Leadership Consultants (SLCs) and Orientation Leaders (OLs) for the upcoming year!

If you don’t think these positions are for you – PLEASE continue reading because we need YOU to apply for these incredible experiences.

The most common question people have is, “Are these paid positions?”

YES - both positions are paid positions.

OLs work about 35-40 hours a week during the summer, and the time is comprised of 2 weeks of training, and 4 weeks facilitating orientation for our new students and their family members.
SLCs work anywhere between12-20 hours per week during the academic year. SLCs spend about 6-8 scheduled hours in OSEMA, and the rest is spent working (semi-flexible) hours on various service, leadership, retreat, program and administrative projects!

People’s next concern is that these positions might not directly relate to their field of study.

This concern could not be farther from the truth. According to the National Association for Colleges and Employers in a survey done in 2016, the two most important qualities to have on your resume are demonstrated leadership ability and the ability to work in a team.

SLCs and OLs provide comprehensive training and immersive experiences that will allow you to explore and develop skills such as,

Working with a high-functioning team
Customer service
Communicating with a diverse populations
Office skills
Time management
Project leadership
Budgeting
Social Media and Marketing

No matter what internship or job you are applying for, these skills are valuable to employers and your own professional development.
