Latinx Heritage Month at IC

Kick off the year and celebrate with us! Through our programs and events, we hope to raise awareness and appreciation of Latin American culture. Our events are open to the entire Ithaca College community as we aim to honor, show pride and respect for Latinx Heritage.

The story of the 4 Mirabal sisters during the dictatorship of Rafael Trujillo in the Dominican Republic. Inspired by the true story of sisters who, in 1960, became political martyrs for supporting a revolution over the iron fist regime of Trujillo. The exec board of PODER will facilitate dialogue immediately following the screening. Sponsored by PODER.

 

The first winner of NBC's smash hit "The Voice" in 2011, Javier Colon brings his infectious brand of "acoustic soul" to Ithaca College for an evening of song and engagement. Sponsored by PODER.

 

Much like the seldom-heard song of the hummingbird, the voices of Latino fathers are rarely heard in addressing LGBTQ issues. A story of Latino fathers dealing with issues of immigration, faith, prejudice, isolation, marriage equality, machismo, culture, hope, culture, hope, solidarity, and the process of their LGBTQ children coming out. An AfroBoricua writer, performer, and educator born and raised in the Bronx, Noel Quiñones takes the stage in IC Square to deliver messages of "Perfection""Confessions", and more. Sponsored by PODER.

 

A continued tradition since the founding of PODER, this Banquet brings the month to a close through celebration and reflection.
