Informational Session on New York State Paid Family Leave Program

To All Contingent Faculty:

Before you communicate with your Chair/Director about your availability for work in 2018, we want you to be aware that you will gain new rights as a worker in 2018. Starting January 1, 2018, the New York State Paid Family Leave Program (PFL) will provide private sector employees working in New York state with job-protected, paid family leave for parents and caretakers.

What does the new law provide?

Starting January 1, you will be able to take up to 8 weeks of leave at 50% of pay.
The NYS PFL program provides full job protection, meaning that you cannot be fired by your employer for making use of it.

Who can take these benefits?

PFL covers ALL private-sector employees who have been with their employer for at least 6 months (if full-time) or at least 175 days in any consecutive 52-week period (if part-time).
Contingent faculty across the state, including those of us who are employed at IC on semester-only, "part-time" contracts, ARE expected to be covered by this program.

Join us for an Info Session on *NEW* Paid Family Leave Benefits for Contingent Faculty on Friday, October 6th from 2:00 to 2:50 PM in Center for Health Sciences (CHS) 202.

All contingent faculty, whether full-time or part-time, whether employed at IC or not, are welcome. We also hope to make this meeting available online for those who can't attend in person - more details on that coming soon.
