Creating Pátzcuaro, Creating Mexico: Art, Tourism, and Nation Building under Lázaro Cárdenas (University of Texas, 2018), examines how celebrated Mexican President Lázaro Cárdenas mobilized cultural patronage to transform the small city of Pátzcuaro, Michoacán, into a center for national tourism.
