HLTH 30600 Counseling for the Health Professions.  CRN 40092

3 credits

The course covers theory, application and skills for working with individual clients to help them achieve their goals.

Emphasis will be on health related behavior change but the skills covered in this class are generalizable for any situation that would benefit from skillful communication. We will focus on motivational interviewing, reflective listening, attending and communication skills, and principles and methods for working with clients to manage disease and maintain wellness. Students will learn, and have extensive opportunity to practice, valuable skills for engagement and, by the end of the semester, will have attained confidence for effective communication with clients.
