Need an elective for the spring? Are you interested in the health or helping professions and want to learn communication skills for working with individuals? CRN 40092 T/Th 1:10 - 2:25, Attributes: Health Electives, Non-Liberal Arts. 3 credits The course covers theory, application and skills for working with individual clients to help them achieve their goals. Emphasis will be on health related behavior change but the skills covered in this class are generalizable for any situation that would benefit from skillful communication. We will focus on motivational interviewing, reflective listening, attending and communication skills, and principles and methods for working with clients to manage disease and maintain wellness. Students will learn, and have extensive opportunity to practice, valuable skills for engagement and, by the end of the semester, will have attained confidence for effective communication with clients.
