Residency by French Ensemble C Barré at Ithaca College

From Thursday to Saturday (29-31 August), a subsection of the French Ensemble C Barré will be in residence at Ithaca College, giving workshops and masterclasses, recording student composers’ works and performing a concert on Saturday, 31 August at 7pm in the Hockett Recital Hall. The ensemble is based in Marseille and Paris, France. In Ithaca, they will present an eclectic program for mandolin, guitar and harp giving  several U.S. premieres of new works by Mikel Urquiza, Hans Werner Henze, Birke Bertelsmeier, Frédéric Pattar and Ithaca College Assistant Professor in Music Composition, Evis Sammoutis. The ensemble's visit is made possible thanks to a French American Cultural Exchange (FACE) New Music Fund Grant, with additional support provided by the Special Events and Guest Artists (SEGA) Series at Ithaca College.

29 August

10.50 – 11.40 am: JJWCM 2201: Presentation at Orchestration for Composers II Class 

1.05 – 1.55 pm: Hockett Recital Hall: Composition seminar (open to all music students) 

4.00 – 4.50 pm: Nabenhauer Recital Room: Instrumental workshops / demonstrations for all music students (focus on composition and guitar studios) 

5.00 – 5.30 pm: Hockett Green Room: Q&A with the musicians about career paths

6.00 – 7.00 pm: Hockett Recital Hall: Open Rehearsal for Saturday’s evening concert / Demonstrations of repertoire 

30 August

9.00 – 12.00 pm: Hockett Recital Hall: Readings / Recordings of all student composition pieces

2.00 – 5.00 pm: Nabenhauer Recital Room: Readings / Continuing recording of all student pieces

31 August

9.00 – 11.00 am: Hockett Recital Hall Open rehearsals for evening concert

7.00 pm: Evening concert at Hockett Recital Hall
