The Writing Center will open for the year with limited hours beginning September 13th and will be open for all business hours as of September 20th. Visit ithaca.mywconline.com (reachable via apps.ithaca.edu) to make an account and an appointment.
The Writing Center aims to help students from all disciplines, backgrounds, and experiences to develop greater independence as writers. We are committed to helping students see writing as central to critical and creative thinking. For the duration of fall 2020, the Writing Center will be offering synchronous video conferences using a combination of Zoom and Google Docs. The physical location in Smiddy 107 will not be open to clients.
Appointments can be made at Ithaca.mywconline.com, which is also linked on the apps.ithaca.edu page. During business hours, you can message ithacacollegewritingcenter on Google Hangouts or email ithacacollegewritingcenter@gmail.com to get real-time assistance or drop-in (subject to tutor availability).
In a friendly, comfortable atmosphere, writers at all levels participate in one-on-one conferences with trained student and faculty tutors to work on effective strategies for all aspects of the writing process. Topics explored in these conferences may include
o the generation, organization, and focusing of ideas
o understanding assignments and readings
o comprehensive rewriting of drafts
o sentence structure and style
o grammar, punctuation, and spelling
o research and note-taking methods
o source documentation
We offer these services for students in all disciplines: humanities and sciences, business, health sciences and human performance, communications, and music. In our conferences, we encourage students to develop confidence as independent thinkers and writers. This means that we will not revise or correct papers for students, but instead will help them learn how to do so for themselves.
Hours: Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 5 PM and Sunday through Thursday from 7 PM -10 PM.
Limited hours begin the evening of Sunday, September 13, and regular hours begin the evening of Sunday, September 20th.
The schedule can be viewed and appointments made by visiting ithaca.mywconline.com or the hub at apps.ithaca.edu Like the Writing Center on Facebook (facebook.com/ithacawc/) and follow us on Instagram (Instagram.com/ithacawritingcenter) to be the first to know about workshops and write-ins: facebook.com/ithacawc/
