A scholar of 18th-century British literature, Gabi Starr serves as the Seryl Kushner Dean of the College of Arts and Science and Professor of English at New York University. She is the author of the books Feeling Beauty and Lyric Generations. Most recently engaged in empirical and theoretical work in aesthetics, she is currently director of a three-year, collaborative international project on brain responses to music, painting, and literary imagery. She earned her Ph.D. from Harvard University, where she taught before joining the faculty at NYU. She was elected to the Board of Trustees in 2015.
