Deans Move On

Business and Park schools will be seeking new leaders.

Park School dean Dianne Lynch and School of Business dean Susan West Engelkemeyer both recently left the College. Engelkemeyer took the position of dean of the Charlton College of Business at the University of Massachusetts–Dartmouth, and Lynch is the new president of Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, the second-oldest women’s college in the nation.

The energetic Lynch came to Ithaca College in 2004. During her tenure the Park School developed a new degree program in documentary studies and production; established the endowed Park Center for Independent Media; added more than 20 interdisciplinary minicourses; and established the Park Partners Program, which pairs graduating seniors with successful alumni. During a national search for her successor, longtime professor of strategic communications Diane Gayeski ’70 will fill the role of interim dean.

Engelkemeyer, who joined Ithaca College in 2005, headed the School of Business as it earned initial accreditation by AACSB International (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) and attained a 17-year high in undergraduate first-year student and all-time high in MBA enrollment. She was also instrumental in the success of the fund-raising campaign that resulted in the new LEED platinum–certified home of the business school, the Dorothy D. and Roy H. Park Center for Business and Sustainable Enterprise. During the search for a new dean, Department of Management chair Mark Cardano will serve as interim dean.
