Contributed on behalf of Vincent Wang, Dean, School of Humanities and Sciences It is with mixed feelings but ultimately well wishes that I announce that Kathy Lucas, Assistant Dean in the School of Humanities and Sciences, will retire from the College on March 31, 2018. In her 37 years of service at the College, she has helped numerous students transition to college and succeed. By providing leadership and overall direction in support of course scheduling, preregistration functions, and student services within the School of Humanities and Sciences, she has ably assisted the deans, chairs, faculty, and students of H&S, and has earned the respect and admiration of campus partners. She has served this critical role with grace, dedication, and professionalism. While we will miss her, we also send her well wishes as she enjoys more time during retirement. We will host a retirement reception in her honor later this semester. Please look for details forthcoming. A search for her replacement will also begin soon and details will be announced. I totally support the above statements. Kathy has been such a pillar of
support for students, advocating for them, trying her best to get them through college in a meaningful way, and assisting faculty in understanding student problems. No one can really comprehend how much she has done for so many students here. All the best, Kathy, you so richly deserve a long and happy retirement! Near the beginning of her Ithaca College career, Kathy
became the first Administrative Assistant for the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, the largest department in H&S at the time. She essentially defined and gave life to this position, effectively dealing with faculty, students, administrators and other college staff in her usual calm, caring and enthusiastic manner. As department chair at the time, I could never have asked for a more able and hardworking colleague! Clearly, her skills and abilities only have increased throughout her career.
