Ithaca College is replacing Sakai with the Canvas learning management system beginning with the Fall 2021 semester. Data within your Sakai project site(s) will need to be manually moved by the site creator or a maintainer to another platform, such as Microsoft Teams, Microsoft SharePoint, or alternate solutions. If your Sakai project site is no longer needed, it can be archived, self-deleted, or deleted upon request.

What do you need to know? 

• Action is required to manually move, archive, or delete your Sakai project sites by August 31.
• All Sakai project sites will become read-only with limited access effective September 1.
• All Sakai project sites will be permanently deleted on January 1, 2022.

VoiceThread has improved their Assignment feature that allows an instructor to grade student work and pass a grade to the learning management system (Sakai or Canvas). On June 30, 2021 all VoiceThread users will use the new Assignments feature. VoiceThread will be hosting four, free, one-hour workshops to support faculty at all levels of experience with the tool including a dedicated workshop on the new Assignments feature. The latest version of Microsoft Office, Office 365 ProPlus, will be installed on college-owned devices (on and off campus) beginning January 6, 2021.

Office 365 ProPlus has been available as a self-service update and has come with technology-renewed computers since January 2020. Bringing remaining college-owned computers to the latest version will ensure a consistent experience across devices and the latest security and feature updates to all machines. Apple released macOS Big Sur (version 11) recently. Because this operating system is so new and it has the potential for unexpected problems or software incompatibility, IT is blocking the install of Big Sur on College-owned computers for now. Please note that the blocking mechanism is less intuitive than we would like, as it appears as if it is downloading the upgrade, but will not allow the installation.
