The mission of the Center for Faculty Excellence is to support our faculty members as complete teachers and scholars. Since the College has a commitment to "share the responsibilities of citizenship and service in the global community," and since the faculty handbook incorporates an expanded definition of scholarship, our faculty development efforts integrate the traditional areas of teaching, scholarship, and service.

We understand that these intersect and nurture each other in a healthy academic environment. The center coordinates faculty programs, projects, and initiatives that enhance the College's institutional plan, particularly those related to experiential and performance-based learning and to diversity.

Ithaca College has for many years supported an extensive series of programs in faculty development. From the colloquium series, to the multiple internal sources of funding and teaching release, to occasional special workshops, to support for major external grants, to learning and support from Academic Computing and Client Services, the College has maintained an active and multifaceted presence in faculty development.

The center helps make these activities visible. It has no physical location but a virtual space at www.ithaca.edu/cfe. Since the goal of the center is coordination and resource sharing, the website is designed to provide many links useful to faculty. Susanne Morgan is on half-time release from the Department of Sociology to coordinate the center with the same tasks she and her predecessors performed as coordinator of faculty development activities.

New activities this year include:

The center is dynamic and will sponsor a variety of programs that will address the broad interests of the complete scholar in all disciplines and all career stages. We hope you will find these resources useful in their new organizational form.
