Changes to the College's flexible working hours policy as recommended by Staff Council and the Office of Human Resources are now in effect.

For information pertaining to the enhanced flexibility in the policy provisions, please go to Volume III, Section 3.6.7 and Volume V Section 5.3.3.2 of the College Policy Manual.

At this time, the proposed change to expand the flexibility to allow for a four-day work week has not been approved for this revision. However, after much discussion in President's Council and with members of the Administrative Assembly, several departments will be able to approve four-day work week of flexible working hours on a trial basis. The pilot will begin with three departments that have expressed an interest in trying the four-day work week. Additional departments may request to join the pilot with approval from the department director and the director of human resources.

After two years on the pilot for this provision, we will re-consider making it part of the policy. Some supervisors have indicated that it may be workable during the summer and at other times outside the regular class schedule. One of the pilot departments is offering the four-day option only during the summer and we anticipate that there will be other requests to join the pilot program on a seasonal basis. We will also need to monitor the reaction of employees who work in positions that cannot be scheduled for a four day week.
