Ithaca College was recognized as one of the 100 best campuses for LGBT students in the nation by the newly released book The Advocate College Guide for LGBT Students. This new resource is the first comprehensive book to highlight the 100 most LGBT-friendly campuses in the United States.
After receiving nominations from 680 campuses and conducting more than 5,500 interviews, 100 campuses were selected for the book based on institutional policies, commitment and support, academic life, housing, student life, counseling and health services, campus safety, and recruitment and retention efforts. The programs and services at Ithaca College were noted as being uniquely aligned to meet the needs and interests of the campus, and the LGBT Center is viewed as a standard of excellence. Also cited were the number of LGBT and allied alumni who keep connected to the campus and who go on to work for major national LGBT organizations, and the view that Ithaca College's nature as a residential comprehensive college positions a natural fit for supporting a diverse student body, cultures and interests. Our two LGBT student organizations (one that was established over 25 years ago) were also noted.
Thanks to all of you who may have participated in the nomination and interview process, and to everyone who contributes to our supportive campus environment for all students.
