IC's seventh annual National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week (NCAAW) provides a wide variety of programming, including interactive workshops, presentations, and social events.

"Media Literacy, Alcohol Marketing, and You"
Presented by Cyndy Scheibe, Project Look Sharp

Monday, September 22
7:00 p.m., School of Business 104

What techniques do advertisers use to market alcohol products to college students and young adults? How are they crafted, why do they work, and how can students "talk back" to those advertisers to change the message? This lively, interactive presentation by Cyndy Scheibe, executive director of Project Look Sharp at Ithaca College, will introduce the process of media literacy and advertising decoding, combining discussion and analysis with hands-on activities.

Featured Speaker: David Hellstrom
"The Real Buzz about Alcohol"

Wednesday, September 24
7:00 p.m., Emerson Suites

Forget the stereotypes, and forget the scary news stories talking about the latest research. The truth is that most college students are making healthy decisions about alcohol, sex, and other important choices. "The Real Buzz" avoids the scare tactics and the dry facts. Instead, David talks to students about what they are interested in: relationships, self-esteem, a great social life, and feeling like they are in charge of their own lives. He challenges students to get what they want out of life by making choices that return them positive results, without putting themselves or their friends at risk. "The Real Buzz" is delivered in a way that is extremely funny, constantly engaging, and powerfully challenging, using humor, storytelling, and positive health promotion messages.

David Hellstrom is the director of education and training for the BACCHUS and GAMMA Peer Education Network and an award-winning presenter with Campuspeak.
