The 2020 Department of Education Title IX Regulations were published on May 6, 2020 and are effective on August 14, 2020.  In response to the regulations, a small work group convened to incorporate the required regulations into our current Code of Conduct to ensure federal compliance and to continue a person-centered process.

You can find the Department of Education Regulations here and read our related policies by going here.

In order to continue our goal of creating a culture of reporting and responding to reports of sexual misconduct in an approach that is prompt, equitable and thorough, we have taken the following steps:

  • The college will continue to respond promptly and thoroughly to reports of Sexual Misconduct
  • The college will continue to use Preponderance of the Evidence as the standard of evidence in all campus sexual misconduct, harassment, and discrimination cases.
  • The college will continue to address Sexual Misconduct that occurs on and off campus including reports from Study Abroad. For reports that meet the definition for Title IX we will follow procedures outlined in 7.1.2.5 and for reports that do not meet the definition for Title IX will follow these procedures found in volume 7.1.2.4.2.
  • Individuals making a reporting and/or responding to allegations of sexual misconduct, on or off-campus, will be offered support, resources and options.
  • The college will consider the use of informal resolution processes at the request of the parties who will both need to agree to engaging in the process.
  • The college will continue to protect LGBTQ+ students to ensure that all students have equal access to a safe learning environment, regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation as outlined by the Division of Human Rights

If you have questions about Ithaca College’s approach to the Department of Education Regulations or would like to discuss topics related, please reach out directly to Linda Koenig, Title IX Coordinator by emailing lkoenig@ithaca.edu. We will also be hosting open sessions in late August and early September to dialogue about the policy changes required and promoted by the Department of Education.
