Politics and Comedy Mini-Course Featuring Q&A with Seth MeyersContributed by Melissa Gattine on 03/23/14 Dates and registration information for the “Weekend Update:" The Intersection of Politics and Comedy course are now available. This one-credit mini-course runs April 12, 15, 16, and 17. Comedian Seth Meyers, former anchor of Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update” and new host of NBC’s Late Night, will kick off the course with a Q&A session for students enrolled in the course. The course is limited to 200 participants. Due to popular demand, a lottery will be held to select course participants. Students must fill out an “Intent to Participate” form. Forms will be accepted beginning Tuesday, March 25 at 9 a.m. EDT through Wednesday, March 26 at noon EDT. Please note: the form will go live on Tuesday, March 25. Read more . . . On April 17, 2014, the Office of Student Employment will be hosting a reception in Emerson Suites to thank Ithaca College’s outstanding student employees for their dedicated work. Important reasons not to miss the next screening: 1. 65 million Americans have hypertension (high blood pressure) 2. Many people don't even know their blood pressure is high because there are no symptoms in most cases 3. Hypertension can lead to heart disease, stroke, heart failure, and kidney disease 4. 66% of those IC employees measured at the last screening were pre-hypertensive (above ideal ) 5. A 20 point increase in systolic blood pressure (top number) or a 10 point increase in diastolic blood pressure (bottom number) doubles the risk of heart disease. 6. Poor diet, inactivity, and being overweight can lead to an increase in blood pressure 7. If one does not adopt a healthy lifestyle, the hypertensive individual will need to take costly medication with potential side effects 8.
