The Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival and the Department of Health Promotion and Physical Education are excited to announce that Dr. Justine Waldman will be  the opening speaker for FLEFF on Monday, March 23 at 7:30pm in Klingenstein Lounge.

Perfect Recipe for an Epidemic: Stigma, Inequity, and Exclusion

Speaker: Dr. Justine Walden, Founder of REACH Project, Ithaca, NY  

Dr. Waldman has always been driven by access to care and health equity issues. She provides Low Threshold Medication Assisted Therapy, Hepatitis C treatment, and acute care to People Who Use Drugs. She is currently the CEO of Reach Medical in Ithaca, NY, offering integrated primary care and low threshold harm reduction services for people who tend to face stigma in the current medical system.

 

 

Associate Professor Kari Brossard Stoos gave a keynote speech and presented a 3 day interprofessional health workshop on "Microbes and Me: Feeding our Microbes." She discussed the role of the human microbiome in health and disease and approaches to supporting healthy microbiomes, including behaviors and behavior change models at the Hamk Wellbeing International Week in Hameenlinna, Finland.  The conference brought together undergraduate, graduate students, and professionals in the fields of health education, clinical care, public health, social work, and etc from approximately 12 countries.

The staff trustee position on the Board of Trustees, currently held by Sybil Conrad, is up for re-election at the May 2020 board meeting for a four-year term beginning June 1, 2020.

Applications are being accepted through Monday, March 23rd.  Interested staff members should submit a letter of interest along with a resume to the Staff Council Executive Committee at staffcouncil@ithaca.edu.  The Staff Council Executive Committee will select three individuals from this pool to be forwarded to the Board for their decision regarding the one position. At its May 2020 meeting the Board will elect the next Staff Trustee, whose four-year term will begin on June 1, 2020.
