November Staff Council Meeting

 This month's meeting will include a leadership session entitled 'Embracing Change'.  We'll be meeting in Taughannock Falls Room on Thursday November 21 from 2:00-3:30pm.

Why have some countries closed adoption? Why do some people give their adopted children back?

This Thursday we're going to have a Current Events meeting in Williams 218 at 6 p.m.We'll be talking about what's going on domestically and internationally in terms of adoption, and why countries like Russia are deciding to close their doors. We'll also ask questions about why adoptive parents sometimes give their children back.

The Center for Faculty Excellence is pleased to announce a call for proposals for its Faculty-in-Residence program in the academic year, 2014-2015.  The program will bring together 3 to 5 faculty members who have proposed a program of study, reflection, planning, and action related to some aspect of faculty excellence and development.  Successful proposals will link faculty interests to Ithaca College initiatives.   Proposals are especially welcome that address diversity, undergraduate scholarship, research, and creativity, interdisciplinarity, early career development, assessment, and technology-enhanced learning. Each Resident will work on a proposed project and meet regularly with the other Residents and CFE Director for discussion, planning, and collaboration.

Xanthe Matychak, an Ithaca-based sustainability consultant, will be teaching Designing Games for Sustainability (ENVS 20203) on Mondays from 1 to 5 pm. She will work with you to design and manufacture board games and card games that address sustainability problems. Throughout this design process you’ll experiment with effective methods for creativity, field research, prototyping, leadership, and game mechanics.

Longview Shuttle Change for 11/21

On Thursday, Nov. 21, the IC-Longview shuttle will stop running about 10:30 a.m. This change applies ONLY on 11/21.

Longview has already made alternate arrangements to pick up residents that day who are taking classes, or who are participating in the physical therapy balance labs on campus. If you have any questions or concerns, please email Chris Pogorzala or call 4-1051.

 There are still spots on all three break trips to Lexington KY, Beaufort SC, and Tucker GA! These are awesome and fun opportunities that you should take advantage of.  

Here's everything you'll need to know before signing up.

Price:  $210 for every trip. This includes all transportation, housing, and food for the entire week. The one exception is that you will be responsible for paying for food on travel days. Checks can be made out to Ithaca College.    Locations:  Beaufort, SC, Lexington, KY, and Tucker, GA   Dates:  January 11-18th (Some trips will be leaving Saturday, and others will be leaving Sunday. If your trip is leaving Saturday, you'll need to be in Ithaca on Friday the 10th)

As Thanksgiving break approaches we would like to remind everyone that parking rules and regulations are in effect 24/7, all year round. Students leaving vehicles on campus during breaks must park them in the S lot, close to the tennis courts. Residents living at the Circle Apartments who leave a vehicle during breaks must park their vehicles in the L-lot extension. For more information on the Ithaca College Parking Rules and Regulations please visit https://www.ithaca.edu/sacl/safety/parking/regulations/

Also, as a reminder:

Evening Parking -- A vehicle displaying a red permit may be parked in:

  • The blue section of J lot between 9:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m., Monday-Friday, and all day Saturday and Sunday. Note: Be aware of special parking restrictions for the Whalen Center in the lower blue section of J lot
  • All other blue lots between 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 a.m., Monday-Friday, and all day Saturday and Sunday.

*First-year students with vehicles displaying green permits must be parked in Z-lot at all times*

Elia Kacapyr, Professor of Economics, will discuss how he has increased engagement in the classroom by adding more time for  in-class discussion and problem solving.   He will describe his process for recording short videos using Camtasia to deliver the content normally covered in lectures and share how he restructured or “flipped” his course.
