The Assisting Students at Risk Initiative at Ithaca College can help.

Responding to Students in Distress:  A Guide for Faculty and Staff gives information about responding to specific behaviors, finding resources on campus and reporting your concerns.   You can view portions of this document at the Assisting Students at Risk Initiative page.  

The Assisting Students at Risk Initiative provides a central location for reporting concerns you may have about an Ithaca College student.  As demands of the academic year rise, so does stress and behaviors that cause us to feel concerned.  Find out how you can be a helping resource for students you know.

The Assisting Students at Risk Initiative is a collaborative effort between the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs and Campus Life and the Center for Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). 

Counseling services at CAPS are free and confidential for Ithaca College students.

David Priester, CPBE, has been elected to a second two-year term on the national board of directors of the Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE).

As part of the responsibilities of this office he chairs the SBE national education committee and serves on the certification committee nationally and is the local certification liaison.

With more than 5,500 members and 112 local chapters, the Society of Broadcast Engineers is the only organization devoted to the advancement of all levels and types of broadcast engineering.

 


 

Patrica Zimmermann, professor of cinema, photography and media arts and codirector of the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival, presented a workshop entitled "The Ethics and Open Spaces of Human Rights Social Media: Towards Provisional Ethical Working Principles and Dialogues" at the 18th Annual Visible Evidence Conference on Documentary at New York University on August 11, 2011.

Sam Gregory, program director WITNESS, an international NGO working on human rights and user generated media, was the co-presenter and collaborator. The workshop is part of a long- term colllaborative research project between Zimmermann and Gregory to establish working principles on human rights and social media.

The Visible Evidence Conferences are the annual international gatherings of scholars, makers and activists to probe documentary theory and practice across a myriads of forms.

Does it bother you when people drink out of plastic water bottles? Do you drink
tap water from a reusable water bottle because you know it’s just as good if not
better than bottled water? Do you want to make a difference on campus?

Be an advocate for the right to clean, safe and affordable tap water by joining
the Ithaca College Chapter of Take Back the Tap! Look for our table at the
Student Organization Fair on Wed. Sept. 7 in Emerson and be sure to check out our first general meeting on Thursday Sept. 8th in Room 202 of the Business School at 7 p.m.  We hope to see you there!

 Hagit Limor, the president of the Society of Professional Journalists, will be addressing the college on September 11th.  Her speech will remember the tragedy 10 years ago and reflect on journalism has changed in the past decade.

Limor is a ten time Emmy award and multiple national-award winning investigative journalist and currently broadcasts for WCPO-TV.  Her visit to Ithaca is not one to be missed.

She will be speaking in Park Auditorium on Sunday, September 11th at 7 p.m..  Do not miss the opportunity to hear one of the most accomplished journalists of our time address the college.
