The fully blind peer-reviewed academic journal was founded as M/C - A Journal of Media and Culture in 1998 as a place of public intellectualism analyzing and critiquing the meeting of media and culture. Each issue focuses on a one-word theme; the current issue's theme is "pig." The issue’s editors in their introduction, “Pig: A Scholarly View,” wrote about Professor Flowers' article: Feminism can be added to this list of social movements, with Arhlene Ann Flowers drawing attention to the power of language in her article “Swine Semantics in U.S. Politics: Who Put Lipstick on the Pig?”.
