Fifteen photographs by Janice Levy, professor in the Department of Cinema, Photography, and Media Arts, are being featured by Photo-Eye, an online gallery based in Santa Fe, New Mexico. The images are from Levy's "Out of Place" series made in Madagascar.

John Rosenbaum, retired associate professor of Television-Radio, taught at Tuzla Summer Institute 2009, a monthlong program of English language and computer courses and professional development workshops for high school and first-year university students and high school teachers.

Classes were held at the Behram-begova Medresa in Tuzla. Faculty members came from the United States, Great Britain, Switzerland, and Canada.

Professor Rosenbaum first taught in Bosnia at Tuzla Summer University 2000 and again as Fulbright senior scholar and professor at the University of Tuzla in 2001-2 while on sabbatical leave from the TV-R department.

Stephen Tropiano, associate professor in the Department of Television-Radio and director of the Los Angeles Program, was awarded second prize in the 2009 University Film and Video Association (UFVA) National Paper Prize Competition for his essay, "'I Used to Wonder What a Dream Looked Like...': TV Mythology in 1930s Cinema." 

Students from all majors who are interested in dedicating their time and energy to helping others while learning to love new and exciting lands are encouraged to attend the Peace Corps Information Session.

Thom Hartmann, the nation's top progressive radio talk show host, will broadcast his program before a live audience at Ithaca College's Emerson Suites from noon to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 25. The airing of the "Thom Hartmann Program" is cosponsored by the Roy H. Park School of Communications and the Cayuga Radio Group, which carries the show on WNYY-AM 1470.

Free tickets for the general public to attend the live broadcast are available from WNYY by going to http://1470wnyy.com, clicking on the "Thom Hartmann" link, and filling out a ticket request form. Ithaca College students, faculty, and staff can pick up free tickets from the Campus Center ticket office, located in the Recreation Center (first floor of Campus Center). All tickets are on a first-come, first-served basis with your Ithaca College ID beginning on Thursday, September 10.

The producers and directors of Trouble the Water, the Oscar-nominated documentary about Hurricane Katrina, will screen their film and talk about their work in two appearances at Ithaca College. The presentations by Tia Lessin and Carl Deal -- who were also producers on Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 and Bowling for Columbine -- are free and open to the public.

Trouble the Water will be shown on Tuesday, September 15, at 7:30 p.m. in Emerson Suites, Phillips Hall. It will be followed by a question-and-answer session with Lessin and Deal. On Wednesday, September. 16, they will show excerpts from their works and discuss the "Agonies/Ecstasies of Independent Filmmaking" at 7:00 p.m. in Park Auditorium.

The Ithacan has been named a Pacemaker finalist and the Ithacan Online has been named an Online Pacemaker finalist for 2009 by the Associated Collegiate Press.  

The winners of the award -- widely regarded as the "Pulitzer Prize of collegiate journalism" -- will be announced at the ACP/CMA National College Media Convention in Austin, Texas, at the end of October.

Wayne French, manager of warehouse, procurement, and leasing operations, recently attended the Massachusetts Higher Education Thought Leadership Workshop as the keynote speaker. The conference was organized by the NY/NE Public Sector Xerox team and was held at Stone Hill College located in Easton, Massachusetts, where a total of 38 colleges and universities were in attendance.

The Office of Marketing Communications is changing the way it moderates Intercom.

Starting Wednesday, September 9, stories submitted to most Intercom topics will not pass through an editorial review before they appear live on the Intercom website.  With this change, the person who submits the story will be responsible for the writing style and accuracy of details. In addition, authors will gain the ability to make changes to their own stories after posting them.

This is a reminder that a test of the College's Emergency Notification System (ENS) will take place this Thursday, September 10, during the noon hour. It will include a test of the outdoor public address warning system, which features a siren tone and a loudspeaker message. There is no need to take any action in response to the test.
