Nutritionist Cathy J. Saloff-Coste, MS, RD, CDN, offers nutrition counseling for students at the Hammond Health Center on Mondays. She deals with a broad range of student concerns including eating disorders, healthy weight management, sports nutrition, disordered eating, and healthy vegetarian eating. Cathy provides fee-for-service counseling; costs may be covered by student health insurance.

This isn't a test that you need to prepare for, or get nervous about. Instead, it is a way for the Biology Department to assess how much you are learning in their classes. There will be about 70 multiple choice questions. YOU WILL NOT GET GRADED ON THIS EXAM!

BUT, everyone MUST take this exam. If, for some reason, you are not available to take the test March 5, please contact me Anne Stork (astork@ithaca.edu) so that we can figure out an alternative date.

One of the bold new voices in journalism will speak at Ithaca College on Monday, February 9. Matt Taibbi, chief political reporter for Rolling Stone magazine, will appear at 7:00 p.m. in Emerson Suites, Phillips Hall.

His talk, "Independent Journalism amidst Conformist Media," which is sponsored by Ithaca College's Park Center for Independent Media (PCIM), is free and open to the public. Taibbi will also speak in classes and meet with students during his campus visit.

Plant sales!

The Roy H. Park School of Communications has begun its Internal Transfer Application process for Spring 2009. The process was recently revised, and new application forms are available outside the Dean's Office on the third floor of Park Hall.

Changes to the application process include a deadline of March 2, 2009 and a required minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 to apply for all majors in the Park School. Please read the application instructions carefully for more details.

Applications are accepted from students who already have a Park School major, as well as students who have majors outside the Park School.

Nicholas Muellner, associate professor in the Department of Cinema, Photography and Media Arts, and Charles Woodard '09, a Film, Photography & Visual Art major, were recently published.

The Photograph Commands Indifference features photographs & text by Nicholas Muellner (with design by Gerry Beegan). This book is a personal, historical, and philosophical inquiry into the relationship between photographs and monuments.

The History of Photography in Pen & Ink features illustrations by Charles Woodard. In this set of forty-three pen & ink line drawings, Woodard levels the history of photography through his own unique brand of stylistic primitivism.

Don Beachler, associate professor of politics, was interviewed this afternoon by News10Now TV reporter Tamara Lindstrom for a follow-up story about the implications of the shoe-throwing incident that took place at last night’s Ithaca Common Council meeting.

A local resident threw his shoes at Mayor Carolyn Peterson to protest Council's position against the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The story will start running on Channel 10 after 7 p.m. tonight.

Associate Professor Steven Seidman's recent paper, "The Visual Design Of Election Campaign Posters," has been selected as the co-winner of the Editor’s Choice Award in this year’s Book of Selected Readings published by the International Visual Literacy Association (IVLA).

This award is given annually with the publication of the IVLA Selected Readings to the author or authors judged by the editors to have submitted the best paper to the publication.

Seidman is the Chair of the Department of Strategic Communication, and teaches courses in visual design and media in the communication management and design program.
