Support first-year students in the ICSM program by attending the Second Annual Ithaca Seminar Symposium between Noon and 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12, in Emerson Suites. Nearly 400 students will present traditional poster sessions, give individual readings, and share group/individual presentations.

• If you are a student, pay only $3 per package (a 40% savings with your Ithaca College student ID)

We can prepare your parcel with all the necessary packaging (mailer, box, padding, etc). Best of all, we strive to keep it green! We reuse packaging before it gets sent to recycling, and use new materials when your shipment won’t fit what we have. (While supplies last; some restrictions may apply).

 Postage charges are not included, and will be calculated separately, but you can pay for everything at once.

Turnbull (Computer Science) recently published the following paper: 

SLIONS: A Karaoke Application to Enhance Foreign Language Learning
Dania Murad, Riwu Wang, Douglas Turnbull, Ye Wang
ACM Multimedia (ACM MM ’18)
Seoul, Korea, October 2018

This paper explores the use of a novel mobile karaoke app as a tool to help students learn foreign languages. Prof. Turnbull worked with collaborators on this project while on sabbatical at the National University of Singapore. ACM Multimedia is a highly-competitive conference with only 8% of submitted manuscripts being accepted for oral presentation.  

The SLIONS app is available in both the Apple iTunes Store and the Google Play Store.

The Sea Education Association (SEA) has an international reputation for creating powerful learning experiences in semester-long programs that involve conducting scientific research while sailing tall ships. Rowland and Kitchner-Meyer studied to what extent, how and why these experiences occur through interviews, extant data analysis, and participant observation of the SEA Semester program Marine Biodiversity and Conservation. Themes consistent with past studies of powerful learning emerged, for example, authenticity, openness, relationships with others, and intense engagement, while outcomes continued to be highly individual. Relationships among these themes point toward complexity, design, and systemic design and suggest seeds of a theory of powerful learning systems.
