He is an LGBT community leader in Israel, served as chairman of the national LGBT association in Israel and was a member of the Tel Aviv-Jaffa City Council and advises the mayor on LGBT affairs. He married his partner in 2005 as part of a public campaign to compel Israel to recognize same-sex marriages.Their marriage was performed in Canada, the only country at that time which granted same-sex marriages to foreign citizens.
