Trumpeter Andre Ikov and saxophonist Alexei Volkov, two musicians from the Ippolitov-Ivanov Conservatory in Moscow, will give a guest recital at Ithaca College on Wednesday, February 26. The performance will begin at 8:15 p.m. in the Ford Hall in the James J. Whalen Center for Music.
The Russian musicians will perform separately before combining in a performance of Mikhail Bronner's "And Tomorrow Will be Better Than Today" and Efrem Podgaits's "Roundabout and Monotony." Both works were written specifically for the visiting musicians' visit to the United States.
Volkov, who has been named as an Honored Musician of the Russian Federation, is the leader of the Volkov Saxophone Quartet, in which he plays soprano saxophone. An adjudicator of international saxophone competitions, he also performs solo recitals and frequently appears with leading Russian orchestras.
Ikov began his professional performing career in 1980 with the State Symphony Orchestra of the USSR and two years later won the gold medal at the international "Prague Spring" competition. He has performed with the Moscow Philharmonic, the Moscow Virtuosos, and the Moscow Symphony Orchestra as well as with brass bands and pop orchestras.
