Second Grammy for Alum

Contributed by Andrejs Ozolins on 03/07/03

Harry Weinger ’79 won his second Grammy at the 45th Annual Awards show in February. He was one of the coproducers of the Standing in the Shadows of Motown original album that won the award for best compilation soundtrack.

The album is a companion to the acclaimed documentary film of the same name and Weinger shared the award with the Motown musical group, the Funk Brothers, whose career is the subject of the film. As he accepted the award Weinger was greeted on stage by fellow IC alum, Chris Kelly ’80, who is the stage manager for the show.

In December Weinger won the ASCAP Deems Taylor Award for additional liner notes on the UMG/Motown double-disk release, Marvin Gaye: What’s Going On – Deluxe Edition. The ASCAP Deems Taylor Awards are presented each year for outstanding print, broadcast and new media coverage of music, and (for the first time this year) excellence in album liner notes.
