Ithaca College

After spending spring break performing at venues throughout five eastern states, the Ithaca College Choir, led by Lawrence Doebler, will return home and present its tour program at Ithaca College

The performance will be free and open to the public.

Based around the theme of "Peace," the concert features Ralph Vaughan Williams's "Dona nobis pacem" (Grant Us Peace), a work that depicts the horrors of war through the dramatic texts of Walt Whitman, John Bright, and the Bible. Also on the program are Frank Martin's "Mass," William Byrd's "Laudibus in sanctis," and Chen Yi's "Spring Dreams."

The choir's spring tour began on March 2 and took the group to the Music Educators National Conference in Providence, Rhode Island, as well as schools and churches in New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Massachusetts.

A seasoned touring ensemble, the choir has given concerts in such venues as Carnegie Hall, St. Patrick's Cathedral, and Alice Tully Hall in the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts. Although it has a long tradition of a cappella singing, the choir has performed with the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra; the Ithaca College Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, and Wind Ensemble; and numerous professional ensembles.

Lawrence Doebler, a professor of music performance, is currently in his 25th year at the College. In addition to conducting the choir, he also leads the madrigal singers and the choral union. He is the music director of the Cayuga Vocal Ensemble and has served as director of music at churches in Ithaca, Cleveland, St. Louis, and Madison, Wisconsin.
