European Tour Program
Monday, April 7
8:15 p.m
Hockett Family Recital Hall, Whalen Center
The Ariadne String Quartet will give an Ithaca audience the chance to hear the program the group performed on a recent tour of England and the Republic of Ireland.
The selections will include a Haydn quartet, five pieces from Bartok's Mikrokosmos, and Dvorak's "American" quartet -- music that the group originally played in Ennis, Dublin, Limerick, and London while traveling with the Ithaca College Chamber Orchestra as guest artists on a spring break tour in March. The tour was a component of an exchange program between the College and the University of Limerick's Irish World Music Centre.
Brought together by their mutual love for chamber music, members of the School of Music's string faculty formed the Ariadne String Quartet in 1994. The current members -- violinists Susan Waterbury and Rebecca Ansel, violist Debra Moree, and cellist Elizabeth Simkin -- exemplify a broad and diverse background in chamber music. Dedicated teachers as well as experienced performers, the members of the Ariadne String Quartet support large individual teaching studios and team-teach a thriving quartet seminar for six student string quartets.
