Blood Drive

Contributed by Cynthia Smith on 04/10/03

What does it take for you to survive the day?

For some people survival is a much more serious prospect. Local Southern Tier hospital patients count on volunteer blood donors like you to make their "survival" possible. Every two seconds, somebody needs blood.

Did you know that?

  • Only 5% of the populations who can donate blood actually do.
  • Your one donation can save up to three lives.
  • 85% of the population will require blood transfusion at some point in their life!
  • Red blood cells are only viable for 42 days.

You can make a difference this semester whether you are a long time donor or have never given blood before now, I'm inviting you to join us at our next blood drive:
Monday, April 14, 9:00 am-4:00 pm in Emerson Suites

You are eligible to donate if you meet the following criteria:

  • Are at least 17 years old
  • Weigh at least 110 pounds
  • Have not donated within the last 56 days
  • Are in good health
  • Have not traveled abroad since 1980 for more then 3 cumulative months in England, or 6 months cumulative in Europe

The need in our area is greeat, so if you have an hour to spare and would like to help with this worthwhile cause please contact Susannah Maxwell, 274-7342,

Thank you in advance for your goodwill and generosity.

Cynthia B. Smith

P.S. Remember to eat the day of the drive, drink plenty of water, and get a good night's sleep.
