VIP packages for the Ithaca Community Fireworks Show on July 2 are now available. According to Fran Benedict, chair of the volunteer committee that organizes the fireworks, invitations have been sent to previous fireworks patrons and to potential VIPs.
"There will be some special attractions in the VIP area this year," Benedict said, "and I believe these changes will attract many more individuals, families, and businesses to support the fireworks as VIPs."
Foremost among the changes this year will be two mini-concerts by the popular "Sons of Pitches," a five-member a cappella group from Ithaca that now tours the nation with major recording artists. The fireworks show this year also will include a special salute to Cornell University and Ithaca College for their "history of hosting the fireworks shows since they began in 1947," Benedict explained.
The VIP area, adjacent to Carp Wood Field atop Ithaca College's South Hill campus, provides an "up-close and personal" view of the fireworks show, plus a barbecue buffet and entertainment. In addition to "Sons of Pitches," there will be clowns, magicians, face painting, and games for children throughout the evening, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Chris Allinger of Q-Country (WQNY-FM, 103.7) and Kevin English of Lite 97 (WYXL-FM, 97.3) will be hosts at the V-I-P area. VIP patrons also will get free admission to the baseball game between the Ithaca Classics and Mohawk Valley Cobras, which is scheduled for 5 p.m. at Freeman Field. The VIP package, which costs $135 for a family of five, also includes a special pass for parking, an after-glow party, and a special exit route following the fireworks.
"This VIP package is an exciting way to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, and other milestones," Benedict said. "It's also an excellent way for area businesses to have a company picnic and barbecue for their employees and get a great entertainment package at the same time." Benedict said that groups of ten or more may reserve tables in the VIP area.
