A two-day intensive Fitzmaurice Voicework workshop will be held October 18-19 at Ithaca College. It will be taught by Krista Scott and Ruth Childs, certified instructors of Fitzmaurice Voicework.
This workshop will explore methods of working on heightened text -- such as Shakespeare or Webster -- with a focus on breath, voice, and movement. We will also introduce participants to "destructuring" habitual muscle holds that inhibit the breath and "structuring" the organic breath function for the athletic event of acting in larger dramatic contexts.
About the Workshop
When working on heightened text, the actor often gets caught up in a purely analytical and intellectual method of rehearsal. The challenges of complex text can be addressed using physical techniques as a way to dig deeper into the language, unlock spontaneity, and to intensify all aspects of rehearsal and performance.
This workshop, led by IC assistant professor of acting Krista Scott and assistant professor Ruth Childs from SUNY-Brockport, will give the actor and teacher methods of exploring all aspects of elevated text, using a physical approach to access the imagery and passion of the language. Connecting the breath and the imagination is the core of this process.
