Ithaca College

A September tradition, the annual Founder's Day Concert in the Park, this year will feature the Ithaca College Concert Band and the Ithaca College Symphonic Band. The free open-air concert takes place on Sunday, September 21, at 2:00 p.m. in DeWitt Park in downtown Ithaca. The rain location is Ford Hall in the James J. Whalen Center for Music at Ithaca College.

Sponsored by the Friends of Ithaca College, this concert brings music back to the original Ithaca College downtown "campus quad" and celebrates the College's partnership with the community. The Founder's Day Concert in the Park has been held annually since 1992, when it was first produced to mark the centennial of the founding of the Ithaca Conservatory of Music. The concert is made possible through the generous support of Baker Travel and the Boardman House.

The concert band's portion of the program is entitled "Tales of a Traveler," and features Vaughan Williams's "Folk Song Suite" from England, Grainger's setting of "Danny Boy" from Ireland, "Slavonic Dances" by Czech composer Dvorak, and Henry Fillmore's American march, "His Honor."

The symphonic band will perform favorite music -- including the famous "Can-Can" -- from Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld and Bennett's "Suite of Old American Dances," and will conclude with a Founder's Day tradition, Sousa's "Stars and Stripes Forever."
