Jason Hamilon, biology, recently participated in the workshop entitled "Direct and Indirect Human Contributions to Terrestrial Greenhouse Gas Fluxes." It was sponsored by the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C.

Some goals of the workshop:
  • Discuss direct human-induced changes in terrestrial carbon fluxes and related greenhouse gases versus indirect human-induced effects, natural effects, and effects due to past practices.
  • Assess the scientific feasibility of partitioning direct human-induced changes from other effects
  • Outline gaps in scientific knowledge
  • Characterize an effective global research agenda to fill these gaps
