Tamara Raatz, clarinet professor at Eastern New Mexico University, will explore the musical mechanics of mysticism on Wednesday, October 29, from 4:00 to 4:50 p.m. in the Nabenhauer Room in the Whalen Center.

She will perform music from Olivier Messiaen's Quartet for the End of Time to illustrate her topic.

Raatz observes: "This presentation is cross-disciplinary and would have appeal to the departments of theory, musicology, philosophy, and aesthetics as well as performance studies."

The lecture/recital has also been presented at the Eastman School of Music, the Central New York Music and Modernism Conference on Language and Literature at SUNY-Cortland, and the American Society of Aesthetics in Santa Fe. Raatz has also been invited to present at the Istanbul International Spectral Music Conference in Istanbul, Turkey.
