Two exhibitions of Japanese art will be opening in the Handwerker Gallery on November 13.
Masters of Japanese Printmaking from the Solá Gallery presents a survey of Japanese prints from nineteenth-century Ukiyo-e prints through the present. Inner Memory: Contemporary Work by Katsumi Ida focuses on the sculpture of Ithaca College's visiting artist Katsumi Ida.
The public is invited to attend the opening reception, 5:00-7:00 p.m., on November 13. A series of noon-hour talks in the gallery will accompany the exhibitions.
On November 18, Daphne Solá, founder of the Solá Art Gallery, will give a collector's talk on Japanese printmaking and the prints on display.
On December 4, visiting artist Katsumi Ida will speak about his three-dimensional work.
On December 9, Harry McCue, chair of the Ithaca College art department, will discuss the influence of Japanese prints on his own work in a talk entitled "Painting with a Ball Point Pen: The 53 Views Revisited."
