Every blood donation is essential, and many donors are unaware of the constant need to replenish the blood supply.

The limited shelf life of red blood cells is only 42 two days. Patient usage has outpaced actual blood donations. We are facing a shortage -- every two seconds someone in the Southern Tier or across the United States is in need of blood.

We are hoping that you remember how great it feels to save up to three lives with your blood donation. We want you to be an everyday hero. Please give blood on Tuesday, Feburary 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in Emerson Hall.

You are eligible to donate if you meet the following criteria:

  • Are at least age 17
  • Weigh at least 110 pounds
  • Have not donated within the last 56 days
  • Have not traveled abroad since 1980 for more then three cumulative months in Great Britain or six months cumulative in Europe.
  • If you have an hour to spare and would like to be a local hero, please call 274-7342 or e-mail smaxwell@ithaca.edu to schedule an appointment.

On behalf of hospital patients in the Southern Tier, thank you in advance for your goodwill and generosity.

    TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL DONATION
  • Remember that POSITIVE ID is required.
  • To improve your donation experience, be sure to eat well before your donation.
  • Drink plenty of fluids the day before and the day of the drive.
  • Get a good night's sleep!
