Janice Levy, associate professor and chair of the Department of Cinema and Photography, gave an invited presentation March 26 at the national conference of the Society for Photographic Education (SPE).

The theme of the four-day conference in Newport, Rhode Island, was "Photography and Place." Levy was selected to speak about her six extended stays in Madagascar over a decade and the two significant bodies of work -- including the series "Out of Place" -- that resulted from her relationship with Madagascar.

SPE promotes a broader understanding of the medium and fosters the development of its practice, teaching, scholarship, and criticism, and has about 1,800 members.
