The National Saxophone Quartet, featuring three School of Music alumni, will give a free concert at Ithaca College on Saturday, April 17.

The performance will begin at 4:00 p.m. in the Hockett Family Recital Hall in the Whalen Center. Highlights of the concert will be the American premiere of a work by Dutch composer Jacob ter Veldhuis and a performance of minimalist composer Steve Reich's New York Counterpoint. The latter work was written for 12 saxophones. It will be performed by the quartet along with students from the School of Music. Graduate student Cayenna Ponchione will conduct.

The three alumni belonging to the National Saxophone Quartet are David Yusko '93 (baritone), Connie Frigo '94 (tenor), and Todd Morrison '95 (alto). All are former students of Steve Mauk, professor of music performance, and all three share the distinction of having won national auditions for the U.S. Navy Band. The fourth member is soprano saxophonist David Dees, currently a professor of saxophone and jazz studies at Texas Tech University.
