SunGard/SCT Banner has been selected as a single SIS vendor finalist and will be on campus Thursday, April 22, to demonstrate the product for campus users.
Tuesday's presentation schedule has been cancelled. Check the Ithaca College master calendar for the most current information on time and place for Thursday's presentations.
Members of the SIS steering committee and the leaders of the project's functional teams deliberated throughout the day on Wednesday narrowing the list of vendors to Datatel and SunGard/SCT Banner. Datatel was subsequently eliminated upon learning that no Datatel client site is running the software in a comparable systems environment. There are comparable systems configurations among SunGard/SCT Banner clients.
SunGard/SCT Banner is not, however, a system that will address all our SIS needs and more work and planning will be needed should we elect to proceed with SunGard/SCT Banner as our core SIS solution. For example, the admission module is of particular concern as are housing, judicial and orientation. Our final plan would need to address these shortcomings.
Choosing SunGard/SCT Banner as our finalist marks a movement to the next stage in the evaluation process which will include: 1) a day of on-campus presentations to our campus community that will enable faculty and students to assess the self-service functions and capabilities of the Banner system, and 2) a site visit to, and discussions with, comparable Banner installations for further detailed evaluation by representatives of our planning team.
A day of campus presentations has been set for this coming Thursday, April 22, with a repeating rotation of sessions designed for faculty and for students as follows:
Faculty -- 11:00 a.m.-noon Clark Lounge, Campus Center
Students -- 12:10-1:00 p.m. Clark Lounge, Campus Center
Faculty -- 1:00-2:00 p.m. Clark Lounge, Campus Center
Faculty -- 4:30-5:45 p.m. North Meeting Room, Campus Center
Students -- 6:00-7:15 p.m. North Meeting Room, Campus Center
Note: Every session will be open to all members of the campus community, space permitting. The session focus relates to the topical orientation of the presentation, e.g. in a faculty session expect coverage of topics like grade submission, class lists, and student advising, while the student session will give greater emphasis to the retrieval of grades, course registration, and viewing aid and billing information.
As there is only one vendor finalist, the presentations previously scheduled for Tuesday, April 19, have been cancelled.
