The Ithaca baseball team won the Empire 8 regular-season title over the weekend, posting four conference wins to finish the season 8-0 in the league.

IC (22-5, 8-0 Empire 8), ranked ninth nationally, swept doubleheaders from Utica (7-6 and 17-0 on Saturday) and St. John Fisher (5-3 and 3-2 on Sunday) to wrap up their third straight Empire 8 title and the program's 22nd conference championship in 26 seasons.

The 7-6 win over Utica, which featured a four-run rally with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning, was the 800th career coaching win for George Valesente. The 1966 Ithaca graduate owns a 32-year coaching record of 803-355-5, including a 7012-321-5 mark in 26 years at his alma mater.
