Ithaca, which placed ninth in last year's standings, is one of 10 schools to have placed in the top 25 in each of the award's first nine years. The Directors' Cup, which is presented by National Association of College Directors of Athletics (NACDA), was formerly known as the Sears Directors' Cup. Ithaca finished with 553.5 points, trailing 10th-place Gustavus Adolphus by 30.25 points. Williams, which has won eight of the nine Directors' Cups, finished first. Ithaca received points for post-season appearances by baseball, women's basketball, women's cross country, football, women's lacrosse, women's soccer, softball, men’s swimming and diving, women's swimming and diving, women's indoor track and field, and wrestling. Because only sports whose NCAA-sponsored championship events include more than 12 teams receive points, Ithaca's NCAA championship in women's crew and second-place finish at the National Gymnastics Coaches Association championships were not included in the scoring. Ithaca has finished in the top 25 each year since the Directors' Cup was first awarded. The Bombers placed 16th in the first year (1995-96), sixth the following year, 18th in 1997-98, 17th in 1998-99, 21st in 1999-2000, fifth in 2000-01, second in 2001-02, and ninth a year ago.
