David Marcus will serve as scholar in residence in the journalism department for the 2004-5 academic year.

Marcus began his journalism career in 1982 as an education reporter for the Miami Herald. Since then, working as a staff writer, columnist, and foreign correspondent for various newspapers, he has traveled to nearly 50 countries covering a range of events, including the rise of terrorism and the breakup of the Soviet Union.

Working for the Dallas Morning News, in 1994, he shared the Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting for his series on violence against women around the world. He has also served as a contributing editor at US News & World Report.

Marcus is the author of a book to be released later in 2004 titled, What It Takes to Pull Me Through: Why Teenagers Get in Trouble and How Four Got Out.
