With the start of the fall semester, we're returning to the twice-a-week schedule of e-mail roundups from Intercom.

During the summer, when there was less news to deal with, Intercom sent only one roundup of new stories a week. Starting today, we're resuming the academic-year schedule for these e-mail messages. You will receive a message with a listing of all newly posted Intercom stories every Monday and Thursday morning.

Please remember, though, that Intercom is primarily a website. Every story or announcement that is submitted to us is posted on the website soon after it is received. (The exact time varies but almost all stories are posted the same day they are submitted.) So, you don't have to wait until you get the e-mail roundup to find out what's going on. Just go to the website (www.ithaca.edu/intercom) and check the right-hand column -- "recent stories" is a list with the newest titles on top.

Keep Up by Default

For many people, the most convenient way to keep up to date with Intercom is to make the Intercom website the default home page of their Web browser. That way, whenever they start their browsers, they can scan the latest Intercom news before proceeding with other activities. If you'd like to set up your browser this way, there are instructions for doing it in the upper right hand box on the Intercom home page (in the box called "stay informed.")

Master the Menus

Another useful tip for using Intercom is to zero in on your interests by means of the "sections" menu in the left column. For example, if you're interested in seeing what performances have been announced, click on the "Arts and Performances" section and only items in that category will be displayed.

Note also that some items (e.g., most "Kudos") do not appear in the "front page" of Intercom. For example, if you are interested in seeing what accomplishments your colleagues have racked up recently, you have to click on "Kudos" for Intercom to display the stories in that category.

Coming Soon

Finally, we apologize that the "comments" feature of Intercom is still disabled because of security problems. In the works is an upgrade and reworking of Intercom, but it will have to wait a bit longer before we can implement it. You can still send your comments to us, though, by logging in and entering them in the "feedback" box. And, you can send comments to everyone on campus by submitting them as a story -- choose the category of "Among Friends" to make it a story that only people in the IC community can read.
