The History Center in Tompkins County presents Media Construction of War with Chris Sperry on Wednesday, September 8, at 5:30 p.m.
Join Chris Sperry, director of curriculum at Ithaca College's Project Look Sharp, as he leads participants through an examination of the role of the media in constructing the public conception of war. Discussion will begin with World War II propaganda and trace the history of the topic up through the war in Iraq.
Throughout September and October, the History Center's current exhibition, A Campaign of Communication, will be the backdrop for insightful discussions about the power of visual images and their impact on our lives from World War II to the present.
This event is free and open to the public, and is made possible through generous support from Ithaca College and Project Look Sharp.

Project Look Sharp is an initiative to promote and support the integration of media literacy and critical thinking into classroom curricula at all grade levels and instructional areas, as well as to evaluate the effectiveness of media literacy education in the schools. This curriculum-driven initiative works directly with teachers to reach students and aims to foster a spirit of collaboration among educators using media literacy. Project Look Sharp provides strategies, advice, and materials for media literacy instruction and acts as a liaison between teachers and the media literacy field at large.
