Public Safety Alert

Contributed by David Maley on 09/20/04

The Ithaca College Office of Public Safety wants to make members of the College community aware of a number of incidents that have taken place in which a male subject has entered the bedrooms of females living in off-campus apartments. The Ithaca Police Department is investigating these incidents, all of which to date have occurred in the Collegetown area, on East Hill near the Cornell University campus.

In the most recent such incident reported to police, on Sunday, September 12, a male subject entered a female's bedroom in an unlocked Stewart Avenue apartment. The female awoke to find the intruder just leaving the apartment after he reportedly cut her clothing and poured a substance on her.

The subject is described as being white, approximately 5'8" tall, with a slender to medium build. He was wearing a denim-type shirt.

Over the past year and a half, a subject of similar description has been reported entering the unlocked apartments of female residents and watching the occupants as they slept. These entries are usually made between 3:00 and 6:00 a.m. A total of 18 such incidents have been reported as of this date.

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to contact Ithaca Police Department at 273-9973.

The Ithaca College Office of Public Safety reminds students living both on and off campus to always lock their doors and windows, whether they are in their rooms or apartments or away. Students should also report any suspicious people or activity. In cases of emergency, dial 911.
