Beginning with spring semester 2005, a new requirement for students driving Ithaca College owned and leased vehicles will go into effect.

Students who need to drive College vehicles will be required to take a free, two-hour driver safety class, which will be conducted on campus by the College's insurance company on various dates throughout each semester. This new policy was strongly recommended by the insurance company in the interest of student safety and sound risk management.

Students 21 years and over who will be driving Ithaca College vehicles should be encouraged to register for an upcoming class by visiting the Office of Risk Management, Job Hall 3. Students also need to complete the required driver information form

The schedule for this semester is as follows (if there is enough interest, another class will be scheduled during the semester and the community will be notified):
  • Sunday, October 3, 4:00-6:00 p.m., Williams Hall 225
  • Sunday, October 3, 7:00-9:00 p.m., Williams Hall 225
Students who take the new driver class will be eligible to drive College vehicles for one year from the date of class completion. After one year, students will only be required to take a simple written test. We will release more information during the spring semester and keep the College community apprised of all classes and procedures.

Gladys Ward, risk manager, will meet with student government in October to discuss the new student driver safety initiative.
